The reasons for the double standard
Even if it is something familiar, and about which much has been said also, frankly, I find explanation for the two paradoxes mentioned Ceferino Reato in his column in today's Clarín (in bold) ...
you " yes?
"(..) Valdez may be considered a hero, not because he has wanted to stand out among their peers Formosa but because the story was a look on Sunday October 5th, 1975, almost six months before the coup, when he and other conscripts (military service was compulsory) guarding the regiment on the outskirts of the city of Formosa.
Actually, Valdez and his group were sleeping, had finished their shift when, at nap time, other young Argentines like them but with the newly Montoneros blue uniform attacked the headquarters in the "Operation Scoop." The two platoons were better prepared to take the guard building, there was the first soldier killed was closer to the door, Antonio Arrieta, who was the operator and had no weapons. Three of the attackers went to the bedroom door where Valdez and nineteen soldiers were resting.
The montoneros had entered the regiment believe that no one would have to shoot because the soldiers would surrender to the first summons, took for granted that, being so poor and so Peronist, conscripts would fold quickly to those fighting for socialist revolution .
But it happened that Valdez and his companions resisted and escaped the room through a window. Of course before they could install the first outbreak of resistance, they lost four comrades: Marcelino Toral, bricklayer and amateur singer admired Sandro; Dante Salvatierra, Alberto Villalba, and José Mercedes Coronel the bike rack of Clorinda. Others were wounded.
Valdez had a heroic.
Recalling his years of tough football player in San Jacinto, an agricultural settlement located 195 kilometers from the city of Formosa, was shot with his feet in irons and locked the bedroom door. And lying on the floor kept it close with your body for ten crucial minutes, the guerrillas were left with no gusts to shoot through the wooden door.
Operation Scoop "was the debut of Montonero Army, ended badly: in half an hour of fierce combat twenty-four was killed, twelve fighters and twelve defenders the barracks, including ten soldiers, 21.
The first paradox of the tragedy is that all the victims, on one side and the other, were Peronist.
At 56, retired from the provincial police, Valdez is the president of the center of ex-soldiers who defended the garrison, which is a prestigious organization in Formosa, where all the 5 October, performs an act and a civic-military parade . That honor does not cross the river Bermejo, in the rest of the country, no one remembers.
The second paradox is that, however, the guerrillas killed are considered by the national government, and by the city government as victims State terrorism they are listed on the monument in the north Coast of Buenos Aires despite killed during the attack on a barracks full constitutional government of Isabel Peron . They are also honored as well in schools where they studied (Santa Fe as the soldier who opened the doors of the headquarters) and in the cities where they were born.
The third paradox is economic: relatives of most of the dead guerrillas claimed the compensation provided to victims of state terrorism while the parents of dead soldiers to be content with a base salary out. The difference in money is abysmal: the life of a guerrilla is worth at least six times more than a conscript.
surviving soldiers receive no subsidy, only the most seriously injured charge a small pension. And so, poor and forgotten, they are sick and dying, as happened recently with Juan Carlos Toral, "Toralito, who worked in a grapefruit plantation in the interior of Formosa and agonized for several days without medical assistance.
Valdez is fighting to turn that story, with the help of his wife and their children. And friends and acquaintances to help you pay for the tickets by bus to Buenos Aires and the small hotel which hosts half a block from the Hospital Italiano. If he had fought on the other side, if he had surrendered and handed over the barracks, officials now would lack not friends, no official tributes and special awards or tickets Aerolineas Argentinas.
We know that by the mere mention of the existence of these unlikely paradoxes, we risk being labeled fascists
. Suecede that the binary view of the current political reality, there are only two sides, so you criticize one of inevitably means that they support the other side.
Nothing that happens here, even when we can understand.
For all the violence we say anymore. --------------------
