Our Commission was instituted to judge, as to why the judges are constitutional, but to investigate the fate of missing persons in the course of those fateful years of national life. But after receiving several thousands of statements and testimonies have verified or determined the existence of hundreds of clandestine places of detention and to accumulate more than fifty thousand pages documentaries, we have the certainty that the military dictatorship resulted in the greatest tragedy of our history, and the wildest. Because if not, should lie on the ground the transcendent mission that the judiciary has in every civilized community. Truth and justice, moreover, that will live with honor to the men of the armed forces who are innocent and that, unless doing so would run the risk of being soiled by a global criminality and unfair. Truth and justice that will allow these forces be considered as true heirs of those armies, so heroic as poverty, brought freedom to half a continent.
We have been accused, in short, to report only part of the bloody events that our nation suffered in recent times, silencing those who commit terrorism that preceded the March 1976 and up, somehow, make including a tortuous exaltation. On the contrary, our Committee has always repudiated the terror, and we repeat again in these pages. Our mission was not to investigate his crimes, but strictly the fate of the missing, whatever, came from one or the other side of violence. Relatives of victims of terrorism before they did, surely, because the terror was deaths, not missing. Otherwise the Argentine people has been heard and seen many TV shows, and read countless articles in newspapers and magazines, plus an entire book published by the military government, which listed, described and thoroughly condemned the events of that terrorism.
The great calamities are always instructive, and certainly the most terrible tragedy in its history that the nation suffered during the military dictatorship that lasted launched in March 1976 that will help us understand Only democracy can save a people of such horror, only she can keep and save the sacred and essential rights of the human creature. Only then can we be sure that our country never again be repeated facts that we have made tragically famous in the civilized world .
